Alberta emitted 270 Mt of CO₂e in 2022, nearly 40% of Canada’s total. Oil and gas made up the largest share at 59%, but the province has made progress with major cuts in methane and power sector emissions. It remains Canada’s most carbon-intensive province and central to the country’s path to carbon neutrality.​
